About this resource

Australian Flexible Learning FrameworkThis resource has been developed with funding provided by the Australian Flexible Learning Framework’s 2009 E-learning Innovations Business Activity.

It provides a summary of the Australian Standard grade requirements for T&G hardwood flooring, as set out in AS 2796: Timber – Hardwood – Sawn and milled products.

There are two parts to the Standard: Part 1: Product specification (AS 2796.1-1999); Part 2: Grade description (AS 2796.2-2006).

Although this summary deals specifically with T&G strip flooring, the same grade descriptions (Part 2) apply to decking, parquetry, cladding and so on. Note, however, that there are some differences in specifications (Part 1) between products. For a complete description of the grades, the original Australian Standard should be consulted.

Australian Standards can be purchased online from SAI Global at: http://www.saiglobal.com/.
