Development of E-learning Resources

Our philosophy

What is the single biggest development in education over the last few years? The answer would have to be 'e-learning'.

In the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector, e-learning resources give employees enormous flexibility in when and where they study, and how they submit assignments to their trainer. The resources themselves also have the potential to be more dynamic and engaging than traditional print-based materials, particularly with learners who have poor reading skills or short attention spans.

But an e-learning mode of delivery in itself doesn’t mean that the resources will meet the learner’s needs, or provide the depth of coverage that the course demands. That’s because these qualities are unrelated to the platform used, and doing them justice is no easier to achieve in an e-learning format as in any other medium.

Fundamental Attributes

The underlying qualities that enable a resource to hit the mark with learners are the same now as they have always been, regardless of the technology used. In essence, every high quality learning resource needs sound instructional design principles, appealing graphics, clear text, and a coverage of the subject matter that matches the objectives of the course.

If an e-learning resource doesn’t have these fundamental attributes, it doesn’t matter how whiz-bang the technology is – the resource will fail to fulfil its over-riding goals: to provide the content material and presentation style needed to optimise the student’s learning experience.

At Workspace Training, we build e-learning resources to meet the needs of trainers, students and their employers. Throughout the development process, we maintain sound instructional design principles while utilising the latest technological advancements.

We are equipped to provide interactive websites that are fully compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 at level AA – the standard now required for new government websites. The guidelines at this level state that the site must be accessible to screen readers and other non-mouse assistive devices and be compatible with all commonly used browsers and computer operating systems.

We are also able to present learning materials and interactive exercises in formats that engage the learner and communicate with them at their own level. The resources can also be aligned to competency standards and include assessment instruments, where required.

Clients and Funding

Many of our training resources have been funded by government bodies, such as the Australian Flexible Learning Framework and the Workplace English Language and Literacy (WELL) Program. These resources have been quality assured and accredited by the National Quality Council as 'Training Package support materials'.

Other resources have been developed specifically for enterprises or industry associations on a fee-for-service basis. We are happy to work with clients to carry out the necessary research, take on-site photographs, trial draft versions and produce high quality finished products that meet the precise needs of the target audience.
