Chief Warden: Day-to-day responsibilities
It is generally the role of the Chief Warden to oversee the following routine tasks to prepare the site for an emergency:
carry out a site inspection periodically, checking the condition of fire fighting equipment, alarms and exits, and identifying hazards which may give rise to an emergency
carry out a risk assessment periodically to identify, assess and control potential hazards
supervise an emergency evacuation drill at the site every year and ensure that details of the drill are documented
ensure that the ECO has an appropriate number of members for the workplace's size, layout and activities
ensure that all members of the ECO are suitably trained to perform their duties in the event of an emergency and receive refresher training when needed
ensure that there is an appropriate number of accredited First Aid Officers in each section of the workplace
ensure that adequate first aid equipment and supplies are provided at each location in the workplace, and that stock levels are checked regularly
ensure that all employees on-site are familiar with the site evacuation procedures and the location of fire fighting equipment, and that all new employees are given induction training which includes the basic operation of fire fighting equipment and emergency evacuation procedures.
