Wardens (and Area Wardens) must be familiar with the location and operation of fire fighting equipment in their area. They should regularly inspect the equipment to ensure that it is accessible and in good condition, and is being serviced in accordance with the maintenance schedule. They should also be aware of the layout of their area, all exits and alternative escape routes, and the presence of any personnel who may be mobility or hearing impaired and in need of extra assistance during an evacuation.
Wardens must ensure that new employees are aware of the location of fire fighting equipment and exits, and the procedures to follow in the event of an evacuation. They must also keep all employees up-to-date with any changes in emergency procedures.
