Assignment
Part 1: Source documents
Identify the legislation and formal documents that apply to your workplace, particularly those that have an impact on the work that you personally supervise. The list below will give you some ideas. You will probably need to consult someone in the office to point you to this information – it might be stored in folders or it might be available online on your organisation's network.
(a) OHS Acts
(b) OHS Regulations
(c) Environmental Acts
(d) Codes of practice
(e) Australian Standards (AS) relating to safety or environmental protection
(f) International Standards (ISO) relating to safety or environmental protection
You will need to:
- provide full titles
- consider relevant Acts and Regulations that apply across more than one state or territory
- include the year, and make sure you are using the latest version.
Part 2: Internal SH&;E documents
Now look at the different types of policies, procedures and other internal documents that your organisation uses to manage SH&E protection. Use category headings for particular groups of documents and list specific examples under each heading.
Select the link below to see a sample list of SH&E documents from an integrated management system. You may wish to use this layout for your own list of documents and category titles.
Part 3: Monitoring methods
Choose one example of a workplace policy or procedure that you are responsible for monitoring. Describe the methods you use to monitor its implementation and effectiveness. If there are pros and cons in particular monitoring methods you use, briefly describe what they are and how you try to overcome any limitations in that approach.
Have a look at the case study for this section to see how Gus describes the techniques he uses to monitor his forklift safe operating procedure.
