Case study
The case study slideshow has a voice-over sound track. You will need to turn on your speaker to hear the sound. Your browser may also ask you to activate an 'add-on' to play the sound – this instruction will appear in a ribbon at the top of the browser window.
If you are using keyboard commands, use Tab to move through the controls and Enter to play the voice track. The voice-over script is shown in text underneath.

Tania - my job
Transcript
Hi, I'm Tania. I work as the SH&E officer at a manufacturing plant. -
Hazard
Transcript
One of the problems we've had to deal with recently was people walking into the truck unloading area while the forklift was unloading trucks. Often it was just to talk to the forkie, but it became dangerous when people started walking behind the forklift without letting the driver know they were coming through. -
Control
Transcript
We've introduced a control measure of putting witches hats in place to mark out an 'exclusion zone' while the forklift is unloading, with a rule that no-one is allowed inside the area unless they're waved in by the forkie. -
Implementation
Transcript
The production manager told all the workers at a toolbox meeting about the new rule. Everyone was happy with it, and they worked out between them under what circumstances they would interrupt the forkie, so that he wouldn't get bothered by things that could wait until he'd finished unloading. -
Monitoring
Transcript
I'm monitoring the control measure now, to make sure everyone continues to obey it, and to check that the forkie is happy with the arrangement. As well as talking to him and the production manager, I'll keep an eye on the toolbox minutes and safety committee minutes for any comments or issues that might be raised by other workers.
